Starting a new project around the house?
The National Construction Code (NCC) is a great place to start. Whether you’re overseeing a small project or getting a professional in to look after the job, NCC compliance is vital to your project’s success.
DIY projects
Although the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) develops and maintains the NCC, state and territory governments are responsible for the application of the code, and your local government is responsible for regulation. Get in contact with them to find out what applies to your project.
Warning: A number of areas of construction must be undertaken by licensed practitioner, please consult your state or territory regulatory authority as penalties may apply.
Talking to your builder
When you're deciding which professional to undertake your renovation work, you should always ask about their knowledge of the NCC. It’s the only way to ensure your project will pass a regulation check with your local authority and that it’s safe for you, your family and friends.
It is also important to check that that practitioners are appropriately licenced where required by the state and territory regulatory authority as work that is not compliant with the NCC may also impact on insurance policies.
