The CodeMark Certification Scheme (the Scheme) was first developed in 2005 by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB). This was done in consultation with Department of Building and Houses in New Zealand, Australian State and Territory Governments, industry groups and prospective certification bodies.
The Scheme was then reviewed in 2012 with a number of recommendations resulting in the ABCB supporting enhancement of the Scheme. This resulted in the development of the CodeMark Australia Scheme Rules (Version 2016.1), which only cover the CodeMark Australia Scheme. CodeMark continued to operate in New Zealand under separate New Zealand CodeMark Scheme Rules.
To differentiate the CodeMark schemes that operate in Australia and New Zealand, the Australian scheme is called 'CodeMark Australia'. A new certification trade mark with this name was also introduced. While the ABCB retained oversight of the scheme on behalf of the Commonwealth and all States and Territories, the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand retained its responsibility for both accrediting Certification Bodies and administration of the Scheme.
