BCA Illustrated: What is it?
BCA Illustrated provides the Building Code of Australia (Volume 1 & 2) in two forms:
- BCAI Desktop Edition – a downloadable program used without an internet connection. The Desktop Edition is perfect for users who do not have access to, or do not want to rely on an internet connection. When users subscribe, after a simple installation process, you will have instantaneous access to the product. This means that there is no wait to load a web page, no website crashes and ultimately, it is a more efficient service.
- BCAI Online Editon – is an online database that is a fantastic alternative to our downloadable version in that it can be used anywhere an internet connection is present. This service is perfect for clients needing to put the application on an intranet for multiple users, and still delivers the same information as in the downloadable version.
Both products contain the full BCA. However, the features of BCA Illustrated go further than just simply the BCA clauses. BCA Illustrated enhances your understanding of the BCA clauses by providing detailed explanations and illustrations, and many clauses have multiple explanations/illustrations.

BCA Illustrated is developed by the Hendry Group (national building surveyors) who see the need for a product that provides detailed explanations and visual enhancements to improve the usability of the BCA. We also want to give customers an electronic choice.
Having trouble interpreting the BCA?
BCA Illustrated provides embedded links from BCA clauses to over 3000 illustrated explanations. Each explanation describes an issue, an interpretation and features resizable illustrations. BCA Illustrated has been specifically designed to help the user understand the BCA and comprehend various interpretations.
What functions are available?
BCA Illustrated gives users a simple way of using BCA clauses in office environments. Keyword searches, BCA Index navigation, printing, copying and saving of both clauses and illustrations and bookmarking functionalities help users to be able to communicate the BCA clauses to clients and employees and allows for easy integration between popular office products.
When is BCA Illustrated updated?
BCA Illustrated is continually being added to. We provide a major update in May each year in line with the ABCB amendments to the BCA.
