Consultation is the cornerstone of the ABCB's commitment to maintaining a contemporary and relevant NCC.

Good societal outcomes for safety, health, amenity and sustainability in the built environment flow from engaging constructively with the community and industry, ultimately providing significant benefits for all.

The consultation period for the proposed NCC 2016 Volume One Amendment 1 and proposed NCC Governing Requirements closed in September with an overwhelming number of responses reflecting strong interest in the ongoing development of the NCC.

NCC 2016 Volume One Amendment 1

The public consultation process for NCC 2016 Volume One Amendment 1 closed on 10 September. Feedback submitted will be considered by the ABCB’s technical committee, the Building Codes Committee. The Amendment will then be provided to the Board of the ABCB, which once endorsed, will be made available on the ABCB website in preparation for adoption by States and Territories in March 2018.

Supporting materials will accompany the amendment. These include updates to the Guide to the NCC, ABCB Fire Performance of External Walls and Cladding Advisory Note and a new Evidence of Suitability Handbook.

In order to stay up-to-date with newly released supporting materials, make sure you have opted in to receive notifications within your NCC registration.

Proposed Governing Requirements

The consultation process for the Proposed Governing requirements closed on 3 September. A large number of responses were received with strong support for the proposed changes. The feedback received will be reviewed and consolidated over the next few months and pending support, will then be subjected to the usual code amendment process for NCC 2019. This includes further consultation through the Public Comment Draft and Building and Plumbing Codes Committee processes.
